Brief description

ARPA is the Italian environmental agency, one for each region of Italy. The agencies are under regional or provincial administration and their main role is the natural environmental protection of Italy, with the task to keep under control the natural environment and verify environmental regulations. The Regional Environmental Protection Agencies monitor the state of the environment, check the sources of pollution and their impact on the environment, identify and prevent risk factors for both human and environmental health. The ARPA agencies inspect the regional territory to verify that the environmental rules and regulations are respected, and also provide specific technical controls to support the related provisions. They also make available to institutions, associations and citizens the results of their monitoring activities and the outcome of their collaboration with other entities dealing with the environmental information through an efficient system for disseminating environmental consciousness. The ARPA regional agencies cooperate with other Italian environmental agencies through the National System for the Environmental Protection (SNPA). The ARPA agencies provide technical assistance to Public Institutions in their administrative functions dealing with the environmental protection, e.g. advices, scientific and technical proposals, etc. In particular, the ARPA agencies: • monitor the quality of the air in the Italian regions and check the gas emissions in the atmosphere; • operate a surface water and groundwater monitoring; • study the coastal marine environment and the fish species; • control the measures relating to soil conservation, hazardous waste producers and hazardous waste treatment; • check noise pollution; • monitor electromagnetic fields; • verify and analyze every possible presence of asbestos in the air, water, soil and waste; • monitor the radon affected areas; • analyse the relationship between the environment and the environmental epidemiology; • administrate the Regional Environmental Information System (SIRA); • plan and spread the environmental awareness through the promotion of environmental data, reports, promotional material, information, etc. Here is the complete list of the ARPA agencies in the Italian Adriatic Ionian area: ARPAB - Agenzia Regionale per la Protezione dell'Ambiente della Basilicata, http://www.arpab.it/ ARPACAL – Agenzia Regionale per la Protezione dell’Ambiente della Calabria, http://www.arpacal.it/ ARPAE - Agenzia Regionale per la Prevenzione, l´Ambiente e l´Energia dell´Emilia-Romagna, https://www.arpae.it ARPAFVG – Agenzia Regionale per la Protezione dell’Ambiente del Friuli Venezia Giulia, http://www.arpa.fvg.it ARPAM – Agenzia Regionale per la Protezione Ambientale delle Marche, https://www.arpa.marche.it ARPA MOLISE - Agenzia Regionale per la Protezione Ambientale del Molise, http://www.arpamolise.it ARPA PUGLIA – Agenzia Regionale per la Prevenzione e la Protezione dell’Ambiente, http://www.arpa.puglia.it ARPA SICILIA – Agenzia Regionale per la Protezione dell’Ambiente – Regione Sicilia, https://www.arpa.sicilia.it ARPAV – Agenzia Regionale per la Prevenzione e Protezione Ambientale del Veneto, http://www.arpa.veneto.it
